Robots have been around for many years and its no news that they are becoming part of our society. Nevertheless, the number of EU robotics activities in 2014 was outstanding showing that robotics has become an important factor in the European society and economy.  As reported by Cordis, in 2014 the European Commission together with 180 companies and research organisations launched the world's largest civilian research and innovation programme in robotics called SPARC .
